Midwest Sanction Showdown set for Davenport Speedway this Friday
Open Late Models will take on the historic half-mile oval
DAVENPORT, Ia. (April 12, 2017) – Stock car racing excitement returns to the historic half-mile track at the Davenport Speedway this Friday, April 14th, for the Midwest Sanction Showdown. The event is the only half-mile race at the Davenport Speedway in 2017. This is the fourth year for the event which is co-sanctioned by the Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series and the MARS DirtCar Series.
Last year’s Midwest Sanction Showdown was won by ‘the Iceman’ Jimmy Mars of Wisconsin. Chad Simpson of Mt. Vernon, Iowa took the win in 2015. Jason Feger of Bloomington, Illinois, claimed the victory in 2014.
The MARS DirtCar Series is a super late model organization that competes across the Midwest. The series is under new management this season and has east and west divisions for 2017. The Midwest Sanction Showdown is a part of the west division schedule. The defending series champion is Tony Jackson Jr., of Lebanon, Missouri.
The Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series is entering its ninth season. The West Union, Iowa based organization is a super late model series that races in the upper Midwest. The defending series champion is Chris Simpson of Oxford, Iowa.
Also racing at the Midwest Sanction Showdown will be Modifieds, SportMods, and Street Stocks. The support classes will use a draw/redraw format.
The Davenport Speedway half-mile dirt track has a history of auto racing events dating back to the early 1900’s. The track was host to the first NASCAR race in Iowa, in 1953.
Tickets for the Midwest Sanction Showdown are $18, students and seniors $16, and children under 12 are free. Pit passes are $35. The pit gate opens at 4pm., with hot laps at 6:30pm and racing at 7pm
The Davenport Speedway is located at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, on West Locust Street in Davenport, Iowa. Pit gates will open at 4pm, grandstand at 5:00pm, with hotlaps at 6:30pm, and racing at 7pm.
